Lighting A 10 Gallon Planted Tank - Monster Fish Keepers
YEAR END CLEARANCE --"Little Treasures" 10 Gallon Fish Tank Aquarium with Lighting
As always, bigger is better with aquariums. The intent of this guide is to provide 10 gallon and 12 gallon tank options, we have included four 10 gallon fish tanks and two 12 gallon tanks as a slightly bigger alternative with similar size footprints. The space from both a 10gallon aquariums or 12 gallon aquariums will give your fish community enough space to live happy and healthy. They will be able to swim around and get some exercise, while also providing better water quality as long as you do not overcrowd the tank. Smaller tanks can require more maintenance and cleaning and become dirty in less amount of time.
This 10 gallon half-moon tank is decorated with marine objects, giving the illusion of a salt-water tank. The corals, anemones and jellyfish are silicone, the coral is resin and the plants are plastic. The GloFish are all the same variety of genetically modified black skirt tetras. The lighting shown in this video is 100% ultraviolet for novelty; more full-spectrum lighting is needed for healthy fish. Some colors of GloFish are more reactive to UV lights; especially the Electric Green®, Starfire Red®, and Sunburst Orange®. It is possible to add "shrimp" and "lobsters" (actually colorful crawfish), as well as marine-lookin mollusks / snails. However, they require algae to survive. I like to treat my faux-marine GloFish tank with low levels of anti-algae chemicals such as copper sulfate which is poisonous to invertebrates. Not shown are the danio or barb varieties of GloFish. The danios are surface dwellers; and the Electric Green® color is one of the most UV varieties. The barbs are not nearly as UV reactive, and can be aggressive.

One of the great things with Deckey lighting is there are no frills or add-ons to worry about. simply plug in the light, put it in place and you're set. That doesn't mean there aren't a few extra bits of info that are helpful to know.
First off the light is not water resistant what so ever. Even mist created via aeration can damage the light, making a glass top essential to using the Deckey light for your 10 gallon aquarium. This is no real issue as glass tops provide a lot of value to aquariums anyways. If however you will not be adding the glass top onto your tank I suggest you look at a different light fixture.
The cord is pretty nice at a solid five foot long. This gives you all the wire you need to hook your light up and set up a drip loop. Remember these loops are important as the prevent electrical fires.
Finally the Deckey light features a simple switch for the white/blue/off settings. Later in your aquarium hobby you may want to add a timer to the light, but for now simply remember to turn the light on and off each day at around the same time. Fish do develop a schedule, and changing that can cause them stress. A 10 gallon aquarium is a popular choice for beginning hobbyists. Many hobbyists set up a 10 gallon aquarium as a low light, low tech freshwater tropical community tank. Other 10 gallon aquarium setup ideas include species tanks for , , , , , , and .
