Enjoy the ambiance of the Café dining room and martinis around the piano in the Mermaid Room lounge, all with a dazzling view of the restaurant’s famous tropical reef aquarium and impeccable service.Hosts Wayde King and Brett Raymer were on the scene at Laketown Wharf's new restaurant in Panama City Beach, Florida, putting the finishing touches on the 735-gallon tank. A local aquarium company supplied the fish, which includes angelfish, butterflies, lookdowns and pufferfish. My wife and I are staying in Panama City Beach for a week and saw The Saltwater Grill got a good write up in the local tourist paper.
The centerpiece is a huge floor to ceiling aquarium with many types of brightly colored tropical fish. It is fun to watch them swimming around - while you are eating other fish.
We arrived during Happy Hour and my wife had a delicious Pineapple Upside Down Martini. I had a bottle of Stella. Our waiter said the beer was a dollar off at Happy Hour but he was wrong. It was full price. The service by this waiter was very slow but he said he had only been there a few days. It would be wrong for me to give bad marks to the waiter.
My wife ordered pretzel and andouille coated grouper and I had fried redfish. Both were very large portions and we both took enough back to the Marriott for another meal. Both were very tasty. For dessert, we shared a huge portion of Southern Pecan Bread Pudding. It was like a huge custardy cinnamon bun served warm and gooey. Delicious! Prices were average for a tourist restaurant. The grouper was $27 and the redfish was $22.
The best only thing lacking was exceptional service. However, I am sure the waiter will get to that level quickly.
