Fist time fish owner here. I am going to use bottled spring water for my betta. Do I still need to treat it with a water conditioner?
Your fish has a bacterial or fungal infection. Research how to treat bacterial with Mardel and Mardel Plus for about a week. Follow up with Mardel Maroxy for fungal infections for a few days. Research how to care for your betta. Change water every 5-7 days; for 1/2 gallon bowl: treat water with 1/4 teaspn API Aquarium salt, 1/2 teaspn API water conditioner, and API Stress Coat each water change; do Not add fish until water is treated and room temperature to avoid fish death. Do not overfeed: feed just 4 pellets a day plus 1 brine flake every other day. Wash hands before feed or clean. Never use soap to clean bowl only water as soap kills fish. Keep an extra 1/2 galn bowl for water changes. Use plastic cup or small brine net to avoid injuring delicate fins when capturing.
Your betta's water should be changed at least once a week. Add 1/2 tablet for up to 32 ounces (1 quart) of water before adding the fish. For bowls up to 1/2 gallon, use 1 tablet. Betta Tabs are non-toxic and the exact dosages are not critical. The effervescent tablet will begin dissolving immediately. Wait at least 5 minutes before adding fish. The tablet does not have to be completely dissolved to begin protecting the fish from harmful chemicals and stabilizing conditions for better fish health. Betta Tabs also control organics, reducing toxic buildup and odors. We recommend preparing water ahead of time and storing it near your betta bowl. This insures that the water is the same temperature and allows the new water to acclimate. If you are unable to make the weekly water change, add 1 Betta Tab to help stabilize the water, followed the next week with the normal water change.

There are several different types of freshwater aquarium water conditioner promoted as being specifically for Bettas (or Siamese fighting fish). However, this water conditioner is also safe for goldfish, another freshwater species.Betta water conditioner may not be convenient for goldfish owners to use because they come in such small bottles. One dose may use up the bottle for a large goldfish (or Betta) tank. The makers of Hikari Betta Ultimate Water Conditioner urge fish owners to test their tap water or current tank water for ammonia before adding in any conditioner because the conditioner may not be necessary. They recommend kits listed as the "salicylate" type.Place the betta in the clean bowl. Use a small fishnet to retrieve him from the temporary bowl. Lower him into the clean betta bowl with the conditioned water. The male betta's flowing colorful fins make it a popular fishbowl-dwelling pet. Happy in a small space, these exotic fish require routine water changes to keep their environment healthy and safe. Preparing new water for the betta bowl includes removing chlorine, chloramines, ammonia and heavy metals. Using a water conditioner is a common way to do this. But like all fish, bettas need dechlorinated water. Chlorine and heavy metals present in tap water are toxic and can kill your fish, your betta's water needs to be either bottled water, RO water or treated tap water (treated with a water conditioner). The most common water conditioners used today are: Tetra AquaSafe, Jungle Bowl Buddies and Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Tap Water Conditioners; I highly recommend a conditioner not only conditions the chlorine in the water, but one that also removes ammonia and promotes the production of the natural slime coat of fish (a protective coat that keeps microbes away from your fish's body).
