Keeping other fish with goldfish - The Goldfish Tank
Unfortunately goldfish tend to get aggressive with each other and start nipping at other fish when they are stressed.
Comet Goldfish are some of the hardier species of goldfish. They are very undemanding of water quality and temperature. They can do well in a goldfish aquarium or even a pond as long as the environment is safe and their tankmates are not competitive. Many people will keep goldfish in an aquarium with no heater or filtration, but for the best success, provide them the same filtration, especially biological filtration, that other aquarium residents enjoy.
Other types of Comet Goldfish include the Sarasa Comet. This variety has long flowing fins and is characterized by a red-and-white coloration that holds a resemblance to a koi color pattern called 'Kohaku.' The Tancho Single-tail Comet is a silver variety with a red patch on its head.
What Fish Go Great With Goldfish Besides Other Goldfish?
What fish go great with goldfish besides other goldfish?
These are fish that I have found safe to keep with goldfish. Now the Oto catfish can be a problem with fish that like to nip on other fish, so if you have a goldfish that likes to nibble on other goldfish dont place into the tank. The other fish here on this page are great in helping keeping algae down in the tank. Dojos dont do much for the algae but like to clean the gunk on the bottom of the tank.
Dont loose hope though because there are tons of options when it comes to tank mates. You have the whole variety of other fancy goldfish! Goldfish keep very well with other goldfish. I would advise just keeping goldfish with other goldfish. You could maybe keep a koi fish with them.. but they are pretty fast swimmers. Maybe a fancy koi fish! Yeah thats a great idea!*Awarded Answer : You need to be careful when choosing to keep other fish with your black moor because they are a lot slower swimmers than other goldfish. If you keep some of the faster swimming species like the comet goldfish or a koi fish they will EAT ALL THE FOOD. That will leave no food for your slow fish. Choose a fish that will share the same swimming traits as your blackmoor. Other fancy goldfish work great. There are lots of different species so just take a look at how fast they swim and relate it to your fish.Putting other coldwater fish in with goldfish is not just a matter of going to the petshop, buying anything that can survive in coldwater and putting it in with goldfish. A whole world of problems is just around the corner for those who think it’s anything other than advanced goldfish keeping.
