The 3-day API WEEKEND PYRAMID FISH FEEDER contains nutritious food pellets that are released slowly as the pyramid dissolves. It i
Gives the fish a rest period and makes them a little more active during the week after food. I think I will slowly break them into to that feeding schedule.
All of these fish could have survived two weeks with no food easily, even if the automated feeder failed, which I tested before I left to make sure it dumped an adequate amount of food once a day. The feeder should have worked, at worst case scenario, the opening wasn't big enough and only small amounts dropped but I made sure the opening was enough to drop a fair amount of food, so there should have been no problems in being fed once a day. All the fish got along great, just don't get it.
Many fish do quite well with 1 or 2 feedings a week.
Tetra Weekend: Tropical Slow Release Feeder Fish Food ..
If you just can't stand the thought of your fish not eating for the amount of time you'll be gone, invest in an automatic fish feeder. These fish food dispensers are relatively inexpensive and they can actually be put into full time use, even when you are at home. You can fill them with a mix of tropical fish flakes (or other flake or pellet foods, depending on the fish you keep) and it should be several weeks before you need to refill the food container. Most are fully adjustable (you can release as little or as much food as allowed), operate on batteries and will easily attach to the top of the tank. This plaster-free gel formula won't cloud your tank's water the way other weekend feeders can. 2 discs per package, each disc slowly releases food for up to 5 days, depending on how quickly the fish consume the food.Another option is to use one of those plastic pill boxes that are composed of small boxes corresponding to the day of the week. You put in the amount of food that day's container that you'd like for your friend, family member or neighbor to give to your fish and then you don't have to worry about them overfeeding and polluting the aquarium water. In addition to weekend and vacation feeding, Original Banquet is very useful as a supplemental food source for problem eaters such as Plecostomus, Algae Eaters, "Sharks", and other bottom dwelling fishes. Can also be very beneficial to small fry (baby fish) which do best when a constant food source is available.
